    Oil Creek State Park
    Oil Creek State Park features 9.7 miles of paved trails built on an historic railroad. The trail is suitable for users of every level. Rest areas, with restrooms and picnic areas are strategically located along the trail. The park office at Petroleum Center offers bicycle rental, a picnic area, a playground and restrooms while the Drake Well Museum has a souvenir shop, restrooms and picnic areas. Access: Dake Well Museum near Titusville and the park office location in Petroleum Center near Oil City.

    D&H Rail Trail
    The Delware and Hudson Rail Trail is a multi-purpose recreational area. Old rail lines have been converted into recreational trails for walking, running, horseback riding, cross-country skiing or snowmobiling.

    Sandy Creek Trail
    Winding along the East Sandy Creek, through some of PA's most spectacular hills, valleys and forest the trail features 8 miles of asphalt surface, 7 pedestrian-safe bridges and a tunnel Access: Belmar Village on Route 8 from the west and the village of Van on Route 322 from the east.

    North Country National Scenic Trail
    North Country National Scenic Trail runs through Pennsyvania, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota and North Dakota, prviding outdoor enthusiasts with roughly 4,600 mi (7,400 km) of pathway linking, including 1,700 mi (2,700 km) of off-road accessible trails. Most people use the trail segments for day trips, but few attempt to do the trail all at once.

    Youghiogheny River Trail
    Youghiogheny River Trail is a 43 mi (69 km) trail that runs along the Pittsburgh & Lake Erie rail line between McKeesport and Connellsville. Motorized vehicles are not allowed to use the trail, as is caters to bikers, hikers, horseback riders, cross-country skiers and snowshoers. The YRT is part of the Great Allegheny Passage and offers visitors the option of exploring Pennsylvania's, into Maryland's, backcountry areas.

    Appalachian National Scenic Trail
    The Appalachian Trail can be hiked in it's entirety, or can be done in smaller sections as well. It covers 14 states, from Maine to Georgia, and covers such peaks as Clingman's Dome in North Carolina and Tennessee, Mount Washington in New Hampshire, and Mount Rogers in Virginia. Dogs, horses, and bikes are only allowed on some stretches of the trail, and it is not adviseable to bring them on thru-hikes. Access: The trail can be started at either Springer Mountain in the Chattahoochee National Forest in Georgia, or Katahdin, in Baxter State Park, Maine.

    Allegheny River & Samuel Justus Trails
    The trail features 312 miles of flat, smooth, asphalt roadways, picnic areas and two dark tunnels, so bring a light. The trails are 8 feet wide and built on an old railroad grade. Access: From any of the towns or roads along the Allegheny River.

    Wissahickon Valley Mountain Biking Trail
    This challenging trail features rocky singletrack terrain for cyclists, with short, steep climbs, tight turns and wilderness terrain with roots and rocks throughout. Convenient to the urban areas of Philadelphia, this trail is popular with intermediate and expert cyclists. Access: Bells Mill Road, Fairmount Park, Conshohocken, PA

    Great Allegheny Passage
    Connecting Pittsburgh, PA, to Cumberland, MD, the Great Allegheny Passage runs 150 mi (240 km) and is open for biking, hiking and horseback riding. In the winter the trail welcomes cross-country skiers and snowshoers. The trail follows the Allegheny River in many parts, offering scenic and historic views and frequently winds through communities in Southwest Pennsylvania, permitting access to their amenities.

    Two Mile Run Mountain Bike Trails
    The 2,695 acre (1,090 ha) park of mostly wooded land features 20 miles (32 km) of trails suitable for mountain bikes. The trails are primarily challenging, single-track runs. Those unfamiliar with the park should get a map from the park office. The park also contains a 144 acre (58 ha) lake for swimming, boating and fishing. A snack bar, showers and rental boats are available at the lake. Campsites and picnic areas may be rented. Access: PA Route 417, between Franklin and Cherry Tree.

    Perkiomen Trail
    The Perkiomen Trail runs 19 mi (30 km) in length from Oaks to Green Lane Park, with paths for biking, hiking, horse-back riding and cross-country skiing. Portions of the trail are paved.
